Fear Not

Fear not. These words echo throughout the Bible. Perhaps God says this so often because he knows that we are so very afraid. Terrorism. Community division. Economic uncertainty. Faltering job markets. Cultural change. Social unrest. These things often cripple our capacity to see a future with hope. But, the Christian message–the gospel–is that there is a future with hope, a future in which God is God and evil is vanquished and there is nothing that will ultimately stand in the way of abundant life for all. But this is not just a future promise; it is God’s gift to us now. We do not have to be afraid. We do not have to live our lives in response to fear. God invites us now to experience his promise of life, love, and courage in community.
