Prayer Bead Ministry

This group meets to make prayer beads as a community mission of this church. Beautiful variations of colors and designs are made to give to people who need comfort during trying times. After the prayer beads are made, the group joins hands and prays over the beads. The beads are packaged with a short history of prayer beads. Card Carousel Ministry

Rainbow City First United Methodist Church faithfully maintains a card ministry. Each Sunday someone on our prayer list is selected to receive special cards that are selected to sign and write notes of encouragement. We feel that people need to know that we are praying for their health, sorrow, or overall wellbeing. The cards are placed on a carousel made by church members. UMCOR Mission Trip

Rainbow City First United Methodist Church members organize work trips to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) warehouse in Decatur, AL. Relief-Supply kits help provide for the the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. Essential supplies are placed in kits for distribution. The types of kits are bedding, birthing, cleaning bucket, health, layette, school, and sewing. MANNA Ministry

Rainbow City First United Methodist Church supports the Metropolitan Area Noon Nutrition Association (MANNA) with volunteers and donations. MANNA provides good nutrition  with meals prepared to meet the dietary needs of homebound people who are unable to provide an adequate diet for themselves and have no one else to do it for them. Several of our church members volunteer to deliver meals weekly for MANNA. Sunday School Classes collect donations to aid in funding MANNA throughout the year. Laundry Detergent Ministry

Rainbow City First United Methodist Church created a laundry detergent ministry. Each month volunteers make laundry detergent to give to clients that come to the Clothes Closet. The detergent is safe for all washers and all types of clothing. The congregation helps by collecting plastic jugs with lids. Volunteers meet once a month to make the detergent and once a month to fill at least 100 gallons of detergent. 50 gallons are for free distribution at the Clothes Closet. Clothes Closet Ministry

Rainbow City First United Methodist Church maintains a Clothes Closet for the community. Gently worn items are organized by size and gender for easy distribution on the last Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers spend many hours in preparation for each Clothes Closet Saturday. They process newly donated items, swap clothes out seasonally, replenish the racks, and help our clients find their needs. Each client may select 6 items of clothing each month. All items are free.
